Author POV

Thirty-nine point seven millimeters is closer to the case size Wally Schirra actually wore in 1962 than the standard 42mm Moonwatch gets you, which is why I catalogue this as the proportionally truest tribute in the current lineup rather than the flashiest. Steel case, hand-wound caliber 3861 column-wheel chronograph, the same movement family running the rest of the manual range. Water resistance holds at 50m. On my proportions axis this scores noticeably better than the 42mm references for smaller wrists — the lug-to-lug shrinks along with the case, which most modern reissues get wrong by keeping the diameter down but the lugs long.
