The Explorer is my go-to example that a rotating bezel isn't what makes a tool watch — it's the case sealing and the dial's legibility score that do the actual work, and this reference nails both at 36mm without a scrap of unnecessary bulk. A 100m-rated steel case is more than enough margin for anything short of actual diving, and the black dial's high-contrast markers score near the top of my legibility axis regardless of light conditions. At $11,275 it's priced closer to the Submariner than its simplicity would suggest, which tells you Rolex is charging for the case and movement quality here, not for a spec sheet.
