The 44GS case is where Grand Seiko's modern design language actually started — flat surfaces, sharp bevels, a grammar of angles rather than curves — and at 36.5mm in steel with a white dial, this reference is about as close to that original 1967 proportion as the current catalogue gets. It's hand-wound, which means no automatic rotor, no self-winding convenience, just a movement you engage with every morning. 100m of water resistance is more than the case shape suggests it needs. On heritage authenticity and case-design axes, this is one of the more faithful executions I've measured.
