The smallest Datejust in my catalogue, this 279173-0012 pairs a diamond dial with a steel-and-gold case, $19,895, and still carries the same 100m Oyster sealing as the sport references three times its size. The two-tone case and stone-set dial push it toward purely decorative in most people's minds, and I get why — but the water resistance and case construction underneath don't change with the finish. On my materials-versus-function axis, this is a watch built to survive daily wear that most owners will never test that way, and that's fine.
