About Frédérique Constant

Frédérique Constant was founded in 1988 in Geneva by Dutch couple Peter Stas and Aletta Stas-Bax, who named the brand after their great-grandfathers. The founding idea was explicit: build genuine Swiss mechanical watches priced for a broad audience rather than restricted to established connoisseurs. Its first collection of six models launched in 1992, using outsourced Swiss movements.

Building Manufacture Credibility

The Heart Beat, launched in 1994 with a cut-out dial exposing the balance wheel, became the brand's signature model. In 2004, the FC-910 became its first in-house caliber, followed over the next decade by an in-house worldtimer, tourbillon, and perpetual calendar — an unusually deep manufacture ambition for a brand at this price point.

Where Frédérique Constant Sits Today

Citizen acquired Frédérique Constant in 2016, alongside sister brands Alpina and DeMonaco, with the Stas founders retained in management. It remains positioned as an entry point into genuine Swiss mechanical ownership, priced well below the manufacture-movement brands it's mechanically closest to.
