About Baume & Mercier
Brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume opened a watch business in Les Bois, in the Swiss Jura, in 1830. Célestin later moved to London in 1847 to sell directly into the British market, and the family firm built a reputation there for precision, picking up ten Grand Prix and seven gold medals at international exhibitions. In 1918, William Baume joined forces with Geneva watchmaker Paul Mercier, and the combined house registered its Baume & Mercier trademark in 1920.
Design & Technical Identity
Baume & Mercier's own Baumatic movement, introduced in 2018, holds a five-day power reserve and strong resistance to magnetic fields — figures that outperform most calibers in its price bracket. It's fitted across the Clifton line, the brand's round, classically proportioned dress watch, while the Riviera revives a 1970s integrated-bracelet steel sports design that predates the genre's current popularity.
